Back when I had my first miscarriage, I was devastated. We lost our sweet angel at 16 weeks, and a piece of my heart went with him. The song "Held" by Natalie Grant meant so much to me at that time, and is about the loss of a baby. You can listen to the song below:
Though this topic is absolutely worth writing about, it's actually not the focus of this post. What I would like to focus on is a couple of verses from this song that I feel applies to our current situation in the World right now. Those verses go like this:
"Who told us we'd be rescued? What has changed and why should we be saved from nightmares? We're asking why this happens To us who have died to live? It's unfair
This is what it means to be held How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life And you survive This is what it is to be loved And to know that the promise was When everything fell we'd be held"
Right now, because of COVID-19, the world is full of suffering and heartache. Pain from distancing ourselves from those we love, fear of the virus, of not having enough medical supplies, of not having enough food or necessities, and the heartache caused by illness and the loss of life that often follows.
Some may wonder where God is through all of this. Has he left us? Does he care? The answer is NO, he has not left us, and YES he does care. Pain in this life is inevitable, and we were not promised a pain free existence. What we were promised, is stated in the last 2 lines of the song I mentioned above, "the promise was, when everything fell, we'd be held"
The wording here is so important! It doesn't say "IF everything fell" but "WHEN everything fell."
This is because we are in a human state, in an imperfect world, and therefore at one time or another, it will feel like everything has fallen apart. But we can take courage, and find peace through Christ, because he will hold us through it all and has felt our suffering.
I want to end with this scripture.
Mosiah 24:14
"And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions"
I testify that the Lord hears our prayers and is aware of us. He loves each and every one of us, and will not leave us alone.
