Accepting the Gift of Our Savior

At Christmas time we usually think of the act of giving. This is an absolutely wonderful thing! Being selfless is beautiful and very much Christ-like. It allows us to be more like our Savior and become closer to him. Something that occurred to me though is that our ability to be humble and accept gifts when given to us is also important. Let me explain.

Accepting Gifts

At Christmas many of us receive a lot of gifts. Rather than just accepting them and tossing them aside without a second thought, I think it's important to remember the love and thoughtfulness another person put into this gift for you, and see the deeper meaning behind it. You see this idea goes farther than just the material gifts we are given. When we are able to receive and appreciate things we receive, we can become more appreciative of the gifts our Father in Heaven has given us.

Counting our Blessings

Because it's Christmas Eve, I decided to do a fun little activity with my scripture reading today. I decided to count the gifts I could find from Heavenly Father in whatever chapter I just so happened to be on today. I was able to find 10 gifts in that one chapter! I'm sure I could have found more if I looked harder. What a beautiful and spiritual experience it was to see this chapter in the light of the gifts I have received from my Father in Heaven. Counting our blessings, or our gifts, with a thankful heart, can be a very spiritual experience! What a beautiful thing it is, that we are loved so much, especially by our Heavenly Father. Even if we receive few material presents, we have been abundantly blessed with gifts from him, so many that I don't think it's possible to count them all.

The Ultimate Gift

The most important gift to remember this Christmas, and always, is our Savior. God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to walk as a man and redeem us all. Because he was born, lived and died, and rose again on the 3rd day, we can be forgiven of our sins and receive eternal life! We can have joy forever with our families, and with God the Eternal Father because of the gift of our Savior. I pray that we all have the ability to humbly accept this gift into our lives and truly recognize the significance of the birth of our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and that your life is filled with the light of our Savior.
